Good news, fellow road users!

The implementation of RFID toll booths on 15 January faced backlash from Malaysians for its inefficiency.

It even went to the extent that our Prime Minister had to remind PLUS to give road users freedom to make their own choices.

Yesterday (20 January), PLUS issued a statement apologising to road users and assured that SmartTAG lanes will be reinstated at 16 toll plazas by 25 January.

This is to ensure smooth traffic whilst people are travelling for the Chinese New Year season.

After the CNY season, an additional 18 more plazas will convert their 24 lanes to SmartTAG lanes.

RFID is here to stay

In their statement, PLUS once again reassured people that more customer service assistants (CSAs) will be deployed on the ground to help RFID users in case they are stuck.

Visual RFID detection zones will also be painted on the lanes for easier detection of the RFID stickers.

In the meantime, a coupon for a full detection diagnostic at the nearest TnG fitment centre will be provided. Touch ‘n Go will replace RFID tags for free should detection issues persist after the test.

PLUS also assured that they will continuously to work with Touch ‘n Go to increase the number of fitment centres.

Now that SmartTAG lanes are here to stay, it will certainly ease  road users and save them from unnecessary traffic congestion at toll plazas.
